CALVERT SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Travel: Mission Statement

Our goal is to encourage our youth to develop an appreciation for soccer by providing a competitive training and match environment that results in a lifelong love for the game. This will lead to future participation in order to help develop the sport within our local area, state, and region. We seek to provide this environment to players throughout their club soccer experience so, as they mature, they continue to enjoy and develop within the game. Consequently, our players will develop the technical ability to be successful on the field. They will also gain intangible traits such as character, integrity, leadership, and teamwork. The program is designed to help each player in the club reach his/her full potential.

Program Overview

Player development is paramount to the mission of our club. At the travel level, this is accomplished through utilizing a professional staff organized by our Director of Coaching. Our staff's primary focus is to develop our players in order to reach their maximum individual potential by working within a team structure that fosters teamwork, leadership, collective problem solving, accountability, and a competitive focus.

The Travel Program offers a competitive training and match environment for players between the ages of 8 and 19. As this is the highest level of play that the club offers, players who are willing to commit a significant amount of time and energy to the program are selected through an annual tryout process and placed accordingly. Typically CSA fields multiple teams within an individual age bracket so players can prepare and compete at the appropriate level while teams maintain the structure to develop advanced skills in a challenging environment. The majority of our teams play in leagues within the Baltimore/Washington Area. All of the leagues have a number of levels or divisions and generally work on a promotion/relegation system according to seasonal results beyond U11.

Since our inception, the travel program has promoted the mental, physical, and technical development of individual athletes and teams to compete at the highest level of youth soccer and will continue to:

  • Provide an attractive soccer environment that nurtures a high level of competition
  • Provide every interested Calvert County child with the opportunity to qualify to play competitive travel soccer
  • Develop superior life skills through team play, sportsmanship, top competition, and hard work
  • Develop strong CSA teams able to compete effectively at the local, state, and regional levels

Travel Tryouts

U.S. Soccer and Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) mandate that the soccer seasonal year runs from August 1st - July 31st.  Generally, the open tryout window begins in May to allow clubs and players to build and find teams for the upcoming seasonal year.  All players are released from club obligations on July 31st to regsiter with their same or new club.  Once initial tryouts are over, we hold supplemental tryouts for players who decided to try travel after the intital window or those looking for a better opportunity or environment. We ask that players seeking a supplemental tryout reach out to our Director of Coaching at doc@calvertsoccer.org for opportunities to join one of our team training sessions so that they can not only be evaluated but also evaluate us.  We also require all players looking to tryout register online so that we have appropriate contact information.
