2026-2027 Travel Soccer Tryouts
Travel Soccer Tryouts
Calvert Soccer Association (CSA) is pleased to announce that tryouts for the 2026/2027 season will begin on May 4th, 2026. Please always double check before you head to the field for any updates. If you have questions about tryouts after reading the information below, please contact doc@calvertsoccer.org.
Beginning with the 2026-2027 seasonal year, CSA will be moving to a school year calendar age group method for all programs, including Travel. Age groups will change from being formed by birth year (January 1-December 31) to an August 1-July 31 age grouping based on school grade.
This change is based on U.S. Youth Soccer and U.S. Club Soccer's change in the best interest of the players. Click on the link below to learn more about the switch to School Year Calendar Age Group Formation in 2026-2027.

Coaching Staff
CSA Travel Teams are coached by experienced, licensed coaches who are dedicated to player development at every level. Our staff is committed to the CSA mission: to help every player Develop, Compete, and Belong. Coaching assignments for the 2026-2027 season will be posted on our website shortly.
Practice Times & Locations
Travel team practices are typically held twice per week on weekday evenings at The Calverton School and Hallowing Point Park Fields in Southern Maryland. CSA also offers a third night for goalkeeper training and technical training for each player to focus on individual technical work.
Commitment
Travel team players commit to their team for the full 2026-2027 seasonal year. Teams typically practice 2-3 times per week and play matches on weekends throughout the fall and spring seasons. Additional activities may be scheduled in the winter and summer depending on team and parent expectations. Players should are expected to have a higher level of commitment as they move into more competitive teams.
Player Evaluation
During tryouts, players are evaluated by multiple CSA staff coaches across all areas of the game — technical ability, tactical awareness, athleticism, coachability, and character. Both current performance and future potential are considered. We look for players who are eager to grow, compete with heart, and contribute to a team culture.
Team Formation
CSA typically offers multiple teams per age group based on the results of the tryout process. Teams are structured to ensure every player is competing at the right level for their development.
- Boys & Girls U8-U12: Premier and Select levels
- Boys & Girls U13-U19: National, Premier, and Select levels
The number of teams per age group may vary year to year based on registration and tryout results.
Player Fees
There is no fee to try out.
Participation in the CSA travel program are based on each team's expectations and schedules. League and tournament fees are the predominant cost drivers. Those are less expensive for younger teams and grow as they age. The more activities a specific team participates in, the more expensive the fees become. Many clubs use lower-level teams to help decrease the cost of the upper-level teams. CSA does not believe in that practice and each team develops its own budget.
- U8-U12 teams range from $800-$1600 per year
- U13-U19 teams range from $1200-$2500 per year.
CSA is committed to making travel soccer accessible to all players in our community. Families in need of financial assistance are encouraged to contact us as early as possible at traveladmin@calvertsoccer.org.
Tryout Attendance
It is strongly in each player's best interest to attend all scheduled tryout sessions for their age group. Players should arrive 15-20 minutes before their session to check in and receive their tryout number. This number should be kept and worn at every session.
Only players and CSA technical staff are permitted on the playing surface during tryouts. Parents and spectators are asked to remain off the field and respect the evaluation environment.
What to Bring
Players should come prepared with soccer cleats for grass or turf, shin guards, a ball, and plenty of water. Please do not wear club jerseys — from CSA or any other club — to tryout sessions. Neutral athletic wear is preferred so evaluators can focus on the player, not the kit.
Playing Up
Players interested in "playing up" should attend the tryout for both their natural age group and the age group they are interested in "playing up". Players interested in being evaluated for an older age group must contact doc@calvertsoccer.org with the following information: player name, date of birth, current team, and requested age group. CSA technical staff will use the club's "Play-Up" policy to determine whether the player is approved to be considered by coaching staff to "play-up".
Player Notification
Roster offers will be communicated on a rolling basis following tryout sessions. Players who receive an offer will have 48 hours to accept and submit the required deposit to secure their roster spot. A player is not officially rostered until registration and deposit are complete. All players will receive notification of an offer or feedback on what the player can improve to be considered in the future.
Players who have not received notification within 10 days of the final tryout session for their age group should contact us at doc@calvertsoccer.org.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, updates will be communicated by email to all registered participants and posted on the CSA Facebook page. Every reasonable effort will be made to hold each scheduled session. If you are traveling from a distance, we recommend checking frequently when weather is uncertain so your player can participate if conditions clear.

Once initial tryouts are over, we hold supplemental tryouts for players who decided to try travel after the initial window or those looking for a better opportunity or environment.
We ask that players seeking a supplemental tryout reach out to our Director of Coaching at doc@calvertsoccer.org for opportunities to join one of our team training sessions so that they can not only be evaluated but also evaluate us.
